When we say our kitties always have a “home” until they find a loving family to adopt them, this couldn’t be any more true than for Molly. Molly came to us in March 2013, plucked from a feral colony because she wasn’t feral… just super shy. That’s when Molly changed our lives.
When Molly first arrived, her eyes were wide and her frail body low to the ground. She was probably thinking, “What the heck happened to me and who are all these people?” We knew we had to give Molly time to acclimate and to understand that humans were not only a feeding source but also a source of love and caring.
We spent countless hours sitting on the floor talking to Molly, petting her slowly while her body grew accustomed to human touch. Molly had many breakthrough moments over these last 4+ years. We remember when we could finally approach her and she wouldn’t run. Then when she started to greet us at the door, and finally when she would follow us from bowl to bowl to get the first slurp from the water bottle. Molly has been our expert kitty ambassador — she never met a new kitty she didn’t like.
Even though Molly has been our “pet” all this time, we knew we couldn’t keep her. She deserved her own family, just as all our kitties do. We never stopped looking for that special person who would love Molly as much as we did. We finally found that person, and Molly wrapped up September by getting adopted, along with another Fearless Kitty to cuddle up with when her person is not available.
Molly blossomed during her years with us, but we, too, “blossomed” from caring for her. Our understanding of shy kitties will continue to help future “Mollys” who land as Fearless Kitties. We gave Molly all that we had, but she gave us so much more.
