Surrendering Your Cat or a Stray

Surrendering a Cat or Stray — What to Know

We understand rehoming or surrendering a cat- or caring for a found stray- can be stressful. Before submitting a request, please note: Intake is by appointment only at our rescue in Fountain Hills, AZ.

Before you submit an intake request, please read carefully,

We receive a high volume of requests — over 2,500 cats each year — and while we wish we could help each one, we can only accept a small percentage of cats. Our team reviews each request and will respond within three business days only if we can assist. If you don’t hear back from us, it means that we’re unable to take in your kitty at this time.

Even after submitting your request, we encourage you to continue exploring placement options with other rescue groups or rehoming options. Your efforts matter, and we sincerely appreciate your commitment to finding a safe, loving home.

If you own a cat that you need to surrender, whether it is to us or another organization, it would be beneficial if you could ensure that the cat is up to date on core vaccines, spayed/neutered, and any ongoing medical issues (s) have been addressed – or if you can donate the cat’s medical care. These steps may increase the likelihood of successful intake and rehoming.

We understand that surrendering a cat is never an easy decision. Thank you for your compassion and for seeking the best outcome for your feline friend. Due to the high volume of intake and limited resources, we’re unable to provide individual updates. However, we invite you to stay connected through:

STRAY KITTY?

Cats or kittens being considered will be evaluated at the time of intake by the Intake Team Member for behavior/medical, and must meet the following criteria:

  • Be friendly with humans (must enjoy being handled; we cannot take feral cats).
  • Be friendly with other cats.
  • Be behaviorally and medically healthy—no contagious disease (FeLV, ringworm, etc).
  • No history of biting.

REHOMING?

We are sorry that you are having to rehome your cat. Many shelters and rescues limit their intake of owner surrenders. We suggest trying to rehome your pet by utilizing social media outlets such as Facebook, Instagram, Next Door, or Rehome by Adopt-A-Pet. You may find additional help on our Resource page. Check with your family, friends, co-workers, or neighbors; they may be interested in adopting your pet.

If you are unable to find a new home for your pet and would like us to provide this service for you, please complete a surrender request. Our Intake Team will review your surrender request and determine if we have room for your cat(s).

Please provide as thorough answers as possible.

Please complete the correct intake form for the age of your animal(s).
